I'll tell you about how coaching with me might look and you can tell me anything you want to off or float in this moment. Let's get on with today's show.

-:

Is alcohol glamorous or just cleverly marketed?

-:

Let's explore a belief this that so many of us have absorbed without even realizing the idea that alcohol is glamorous.

-:

That a chilled glass of champagne or a sparkling cocktail somehow makes us more elegant, more sophisticated, or more put together.

-:

But is any of that really true, or have we been sold a fantasy?

-:

Last weekend I was deleting old email files on my laptop to free up some storage space and found myself dig deep in 2015 photos exchanged with friends.

-:

That's the year 2015, not 2015 of them. Although there were a lot.

-:

I guess it was in the olden days, before we really shared stuff like that through WhatsApp or other social media channels.

-:

And there were, well, quite a few photos of me on various dance floors.

-:

Several of me lying, body popping, breakdancing.

-:

I don't know what else I thought, oh, brilliant find. Great.

-:

These will be perfect to use on my social media feed for good before and after comparisons.

-:

Because I mostly look dreadful, very drunk and a bit of a wally.

-:

But then I thought to myself, who will showing these photos help People know I used to drink more than was good for me and now I don't.

-:

Do I need actual pictures to tell that story?

-:

Some of these pictures made me feel uncomfortable, I guess. Some shame and some guilt.

-:

I'm laughing in some of those photos, but I can tell you for sure I'm way happier now than I was then. So what did I do? I deleted the lot.

-:

It was, after all, looking to free up some storage space.

-:

And this was a good way to do it.

-:

Goodbye to that old and not so glamorous version of me.

-:

There's a glamour story the alcohol marketers would have us believe for decades, alcohol marketing has targeted women with a very specific deserve this. You've earned this.

-:

This is your treat, your sparkle, your you time. Go on, let your hair down.

-:

We see polished women in silk dresses laughing effortlessly glass in hand. No mess, no stress. Just sparkle and ease.

-:

And if you're a professional woman in your 40s or 50s, you've likely seen years of these messages on TV, in magazines, on social media.

-:

Maybe you've even bought the sequined bottle or the sassy wine glass that says Mummy Juice.

-:

Or perhaps there's the shabby chic wooden kitchen sign that says Pretty Prosecco Time. Or it's wine o' clock somewhere.

-:

But that image, that supposed glamour, it's manufactured and there's a different, lived reality.

-:

What does drinking actually look and feel like after a long day?

-:

Maybe it's drinking quickly to take the edge off your stress.

-:

Perhaps it's waking up with a headache and some dull regret.

-:

Maybe it's feeling less connected to your partner, your kids, even yourself, wondering why the treat always comes with a cost that is not glamorous.

-:

The alcohol industry sells us a dream, knowing full well the reality looks very different.

-:

There's a good reason why alcohol bottles don't have any ingredients listings or nutritional content labelling on it.

-:

What would happen if we started asking better questions?

-:

Not what will I drink to feel glamorous, but what actually makes me feel alive, radiant and at ease in my own skin. Glamour isn't in the glass. It's how you carry yourself.

-:

It's in the presence, the joy and the confidence that you feel.

-:

It's how you think, it's how you behave.

-:

It's in choosing rest when you're tired, connection when you're lonely, and celebration that doesn't come with a hangover.

-:

Perhaps true glamour is walking into a room knowing exactly who you are.

-:

Maybe it's dancing in your kitchen, in your pyjamas.

-:

Maybe it's doing a headstand competition with your friends. Maybe it's sitting quietly and colouring.

-:

You don't have to buy into someone else's version of sparkle.

-:

You can define it on your own terms. Thank you for listening in today.
